Scripture:
"So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in Him, rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness." Colossians 2v6-7
What is your opinion about this phrase "Once Saved, Always Saved!"?
Do you know that the Holy Spirit can be grieved and can leave us?
Psa 51:10-12: "Make a clean heart in me, O God; give me a right spirit again. Do not put me away from before you, or take your holy spirit from me. Give me back the joy of your salvation; let a free spirit be my support."
What happens when the deposit that was suppossed to guarantee our kingdom inheritance was no longer with us? Does that mean I became dead to my sins again? Have I lost my salvation?
What about 'being saved by faith and not by works'? Isn't it contradictary?
Herein lies the importance of studying the scriptures and knowing the heart of God. We are saved for good works and we are called to be holy just as God is holy. In this respect, we should hate sin in the same way God abhors sin. Since we are saved for good works, we need to change our old ways and become a new person that seeks the good of others and have the compassion and love just like Jesus had for humanity.
This is definitely not an easy task to achieve. Scripture thus presents progressive santification as a challenge for us believers. We are called to 'purify ourselves from everything that contaminates our body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.' 2 Cor 7v1. Hebrews 12v14 reminds us to 'make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.'
O Lord, help me to live in the way that will be pleasing to you.
