Scripture:
"For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world." Then Jesus declared,"I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty. I tell you the truth, he who believes has everlasting life." John 6 v 33,35,47
During the old testament time, God provided manna to the Israelites when they were in the wilderness. It sustained their physical lives but it could not give them spiritual life. However, during the new testament time, Jesus came from heaven and he became the bread of life.
He took the path towards the cross for us. He was beaten for us. The unleaven bread we take during holy communion is to remember what Christ has borne for us as he went to the cross in obdience. By his stripes, we were healed. As he resurrected 3 days later and ascended into heaven, he gave us the Holy Spirit. For those who accepts Christ as his Lord and Saviour will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit and thus spiritual life in Christ. Do you have Christ in your heart? Do you desire to have life?
O Lord, I thank you for the gift of the Holy Spirit. I welcome the Holy Spirit into my life and I am willing to be lead by him. Grant that I do not grieve the Holy Spirit with my wilful and sinful ways. I ask for your mercy and grace if I ever become stiff neck. I am willing to be disciplined by you. So speak Lord, for your servant is willing to hear and will strive to obey your commands.
